Why this corner

We started Speakers Corner because the internet had plenty of stages and not enough chairs. A shout travels. A question invites. Ten seconds is long enough to be honest and short enough to leave the room for someone else.

Asking and answering is not a feature. It is an old human habit — how we find out we are not alone, and how we find out we are not the same. Both of those facts matter. A species that stops being curious does not get far. A species that cannot share space with disagreement does not deserve to.

This box is for that work. Stay open. Stay kind. Listen past the first feeling. You do not have to share a belief. You do not have to agree. You do have to let the other person finish, then take your ten seconds in turn.

Mutual respect is not sameness. It is the decision to sit in the same dark and still ask, still answer, still make a little room.
